My grandmother had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). I remember how she struggled to breathe and the devastating impact that it had on her life. DRIVE4COPD is a national public health campaign that aims to find the missing millions of people who may be at risk for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and don't even know it.

DRIVE4COPD aspires to put the brakes on COPD by helping people identify symptoms and encouraging them to talk to their healthcare professional.

What is COPD?

Both types of COPD — chronic bronchitis and emphysema — make it harder to breathe because less air is able to flow in and out of the lungs. COPD stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

  • Chronic = It's long term and doesn't go away
  • Obstructive = It limits the airflow from your lungs
  • Pulmonary = It deals with lungs and breathing
  • Disease = It's a health problem to be taken seriously
